International human rights law acknowledges everyone's right to an adequate
standard of living, which includes the right to adequate housing.
We at Nine Mile North Tiny Homes and Domes are committed to building affordable
housing and to working with communities to help solve the serious housing crisis facing
many people.
As a social enterprise, Nine Mile North Tiny Homes and Domes is committing 1% of its
sales to building truly affordable housing. This 1% (approx. $1500.00/Tiny Home built)
will be used to support local initiatives through a multi-pronged approach.
Our Strategy:
1. Laneway Homes: Recently the provincial government has followed the
recommendations of the Ontario Housing Task Force to allow for laneway homes
and garden suites in our major cities: “Building more homes will reduce the
competition for our scarce supply of homes and will give Ontarians more housing
choices”. With this development, we are developing a strategy to encourage
homeowners to build these secondary/affordable rental properties.
2. Developing Affordable Housing Communities: Initiatives like the 12
Neighbours program aim to create micro-home communities. Their extensively
researched model follows three simple principles:
PROVIDE dignity, purpose, opportunity, and community for a HEALTHY IDENTITY to build IMPROVED CIRCUMSTANCES, which loops back to further fuelling the first part.
3. Education: Teaching valuable skills to individuals in order to help them find
profitable employment. With this directive we will be working with and consulting
Trainee programs in local communities and encouraging clients to build and learn
with our team.
